Tesla Powerwall battery system designed to store electricity generated from rooftop solar panels. How is the Powerwall different than other batteries?
In the days leading up to its introduction of the Tesla Model 3, the company is discontinuing its 10-kilowatt-hour Powerwall backup power system. The smaller 6.4-kWh Tesla Powerwall remains in the product line. Tesla said the 6.4-kWh Powerwall can take the place of its larger sibling and it generated more customer interest.
You could always have a lead acid battery for your home. The most common way was to use lead acid batteries, like the one in your car. However, this was not so simple. You need to have a bunch of the batteries and you would have to connect them together. When one battery goes out, you have to replace it. Oh, the traditional battery is also expensive and takes up lots of space.
The Powerwall seems to make a home battery more like an appliance. It mounts on the wall and you don’t have to maintain individual batteries, and the price seems reasonable at between $3,000 to $3,500.
How long could you run your house with a Powerwall ?
Tesla says the Powerwall Home Battery is able to run everything in your house. From a 0.2kWh fridge to a 2.3kWh washing machine, the 7kWh or 10kWh Powerwalls should be able to keep you running.
For those that know their electricity consumption numbers, the Powerwall offers continuous power at 2kW with a peak power output of 3kW.
